As I cooked my way through Joanna Gaines Magnolia Table Cookbook Vol. 1 these Mocha Trifle Cups were the last recipe I made. They were the perfect way to finish on the highest note with a delicious dessert. I mean, how fitting, right? Jo just made them on the second season of her cooking show so I thought I would share my review.
The review...
What is really fun is you can put this in any vessel that you like. So I broke out all of my pretty little glassware and started to fill them up. I like this because I also had options for those who just wanted a taste, they could have just a little, those who wanted to indulge could have a lot!
My favorite part about these Mocha Trifle Cups might just have been the ability to use one of my favorite cookies of all time. The 'Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers'. I love to even just snack on them sometimes.
The reaction...
I really have nothing bad to say about this one, it turned out flawlessly and I would make it again and again. It is something so good I could serve it in a restaurant, yet a stunner to break out at a dinner party that will have people thinking you spend hours in the kitchen preparing it!
The other major plus is that you can make these a day or two ahead of time. This saves you a lot of time in the kitchen on the day you will serve them. Either for a dinner party or to just take a little work off your plate at family dinner time.
The TIPS...
The chocolate wafer cookies can be hard to find from time to time. My local grocery store moved them by the ice cream toppings, a place I would never look for them, but now that I know where they are I keep them stocked in my pantry on the regular.
I searched for them online but I will save you the time a headache of looking through reviews and the disappointment of them all arriving completely broken from the way shipping packages are handled. Do your best to find them in a store, even though you will be crunching them into dust.
I ended up writing my local Kroger and they actually started to carry them again at my request. The ones I was finding on amazon were something like $25 for two sleeves, and they are like $4 at the store.
Once you get your hands on these cookies this recipe is an absolute dream. It is simple to make and it makes the most delicious and smooth mousse ever! I like that it starts out pretty smooth and wet so that you can get really clean crisp lines as you layer it up in your dishes. It sets in the refrigerator almost the same as something made with gelatin would.
Until next time, HAPPY COOKING!
